YAO WU

ARTIST BIO

Yao Wu is a female comic artist and illustrator from Xi'an, Shaanxi, China. She graduated from the Animation Department of Xi'an Academy of Fine Arts in China. In 2007, she published her individual comic book "Qingshui Tailor Shop." In 2012, she founded A2 ANIMATION STUDIO. In 2015, she published and distributed her individual comic book "Why Am I So Cute?" She authored and illustrated "Brainhole Comics" and "Brainhole Comics 2" in 2017. In 2021, her comic anthology "MY ONLY CHILD" was published in the United Kingdom. In 2022, "MY ONLY CHILD" was nominated for the Eisner Award for Best Anthology.

ARTIST STATEMENT

I like to express my thoughts through my paintings. The works presented here aim to depict a series of characters who embody imperfections or flaws. Yet, at the same time, they are positive, beautiful, and full of strength. In 2021, I learned about a rare disease called NF, which currently has no treatment options. I hope this group receives more attention and that my paintings can help them.
