ABOUT THE ARTIST

Ziba Pashang was born in 1980 in Tehran. Since getting her BA in handicrafts from Alzahra University in 2004, she has been active in the art scene as a sculptor and ceramist. She has held four solo exhibitions, participated in more than twenty group exhibitions, and designed and created several pieces of urban sculpture. Along with being trained in miniature painting, marquetry, mosaic painting, traditional drawing and textile printing, getting an education in handicrafts through her BA allowed Ziba to experiment with various materials such as wood, glass, metal and ceramic. This experimentation, along with learning, had a great impact on her later sculptural works. In 2014, Ziba Pashang started an MA in painting at Sooreh University. Working with dyes and deepening her knowledge in glaze-making greatly benefited her artistic work.

"I fill the ceramic, layer by layer, between the branches of the tree, and finally, a form is made from the negative space between the branches. As someone who focuses on what I don't have sometimes, filling the negative space means filling my voids, my lacks. That is exactly what I need in life - something that guides me towards achieving balance."
