MELISSA LINETTE DANIELSON

Location:

Hollywood, FL, USA

ARTIST BIO

My pieces are mixed media, using acrylics, ink pen, and needlepoint thread on canvas. Each piece is accompanied by a poem, expressing my thoughts while in creation. Each piece is sort of a self-portrait, in the dream world, representing the current awakening and transformation I am currently experiencing in my waking life. Helping me better understand myself and in turn, I hope it will help the viewer look inward to further understand themselves.

I was born in Venezuela and moved to the U.S at age 2, finally settling in Florida at the age of 8. I grew up always creating, loving all mediums. I graduated from the University of Florida in 2014 with a Bachelor’s of Fine Arts with a major in ceramics. When I moved back to my hometown of Hollywood, FL, I found an internship at a local ceramic studio and soon landed a full-time job as an art teacher at a Montessori School.

In 2016, I became pregnant with my first daughter. Once she was born, I suffered from postpartum depression resulting in me completely stopping creating. I took a year off work, and towards the end of my leave, I began to teach adult hand building classes at a local ceramic studio, and mommy and my art classes at a local child clothing shop. Once I returned to work as an art teacher, I found out I was pregnant with my second daughter and gave birth in 2019. This time, I was determined to create and began painting again.

This Summer 2020, I became a single mother of two and moved back into my parents’ home. I also decided to quit my job as an art teacher to pursue my dream of becoming a full-time artist and entrepreneur. I am currently in the thick of it all, figuring out my new life and pouring all my emotions and transformation into my art.
