ARTIST BIO
Amanda Westrich is a California based landscape photographer working under the name The Photographer’s Eye. Her work centers on capturing meaningful moments and environments, guided by an intuitive response to light, form, and atmosphere. Born and raised in Southern California and now living in Central California, Amanda maintains a deep personal connection to the state’s diverse landscapes and the stories they quietly hold. She began her photographic journey in 2008 and has spent over eighteen years refining a visual language that emphasizes subtle color, natural tonality, and a strong sense of mood.
She is especially passionate about sharing regions of California that are often overlooked, including agricultural corridors, rural towns, historic sites, and vast open spaces far removed from major cities. While California is frequently associated with its flagship urban centers and iconic landmarks, her work seeks to expand that narrative by highlighting the beauty, complexity, and cultural significance of the state’s lesser known environments. Many of her images are created along backroads and working landscapes, where land, labor, and time intersect in quiet but powerful ways.
Amanda’s approach is rooted in patience, observation, and an ongoing dialogue with place. Rather than chasing spectacle, she is drawn to scenes that feel understated and honest, allowing subtle relationships within the frame to guide each composition. She views photography as a process of translation, transforming lived experience into images that invite reflection and contemplation.
Through her work, Amanda aims to encourage a slower way of seeing and a deeper appreciation for the everyday landscapes that shape our lives. Her photographs have been featured in exhibitions, competitions, and publications, and her work has received recognition through multiple awards and honors. She continues to build cohesive bodies of work that explore memory, environment, and the enduring character of California’s hidden spaces and beyond.
ARTIST STATEMENT
Photography is both a creative outlet and a form of grounding for me. When I am behind the camera, I feel present, focused, and calm. It allows me to slow down and truly engage with the world around me, whether I am photographing along a quiet backroad, within an agricultural landscape, or in the heart of a city like San Francisco or Los Angeles. No matter the setting, my goal remains the same: to create images that feel honest and true to the place.
I am drawn to scenes that resonate on a personal level, not because they are dramatic, but because they feel real. I am interested in preserving the natural character of a location rather than transforming it into something it is not. Editing, for me, is about refinement and clarity, not exaggeration. I want the photograph to reflect what I experienced in that moment.
I am especially passionate about sharing the rural and working landscapes of California because these areas are often overlooked or misunderstood, despite their importance and quiet beauty. At the same time, I approach urban environments with the same sensitivity and attention, looking for moments of stillness, texture, and human presence within the larger scene. Ultimately, I want my work to invite people to slow down, look more closely, and recognize the beauty that exists in everyday places. If a photograph encourages someone to see their surroundings with fresh eyes, then it has accomplished what I hope for.
