"THE WORKS THAT I WANT TO DISPLAY ARE SCULPTURES THAT ARE MADE WITH THE THEME OF MODERN LOVE, THEIR INITIAL IDEA IS INSPIRED BY OLD BOOKS AND LOVE STORIES AND CHALLENGES HUMAN RELATIONSHIPS IN TODAY'S WORLD. MOST OF MY WORKS ARE MADE OF FIBERGLASS AND BRONZE.  AND SOMETIMES IT IS PAINTED ON SOME OF THEM. THE TITLE OF THE EXHIBITION IS MANIA, WHICH REFERS TO TODAY'S RELATIONSHIPS THAT ARE REALLY LOVE OR MADNESS!"

ABOUT THE ARTIST

Sara Rahanjam, an Iranian artist and sculptor, was born in 1984 in Tehran. She was interested in art since her childhood and painted since she was a teenager. In 2007, Sara entered the Tehran University and graduated in Sculpture.

She has skills in various artistic fields, from sculpture to painting and drawing. In her works, she draws inspiration from various topics and concepts, such as mankind, nature and society.

Sara has participated in numerous solo and group exhibitions in Iran and around the world.  Her works are kept in various museums and galleries in Iran.

"This collection attempts to narrate a love affair, benefitting from well-known elements of Iranian painting and literature—“Gol o Morgh” (in English—flower and bird), which are the symbols of the lover and the beloved.

However, the love portrayed in this collection is not pure and holy and does not reflect the sublime position of the beloved. Instead, it demonstrates a material and desirable relationship in which the beloved is downgraded to a tool for debauchery.

In these works, spirituality and self-purification, which are the requirements of true love, are replaced by earthy and sensual aspects that lead to a selfish struggle between the lover and the beloved for flailing their own desires despite apparent and superficial intimacy.

At first glance, my “Gol o Morghs” may instigate a good impression. In contrast, the relationship between the lovers is distant from the essence of true love, which requires sacrifice, unconditional affection, and kindness. They portray a constant struggle that leads them to the jeopardy of a bitter and fatal love affair."
