ARTIST BIO

Lucky Chick Designs is the creative expression of Kris Parfitt, who is curious about the everyday layers of stories, poetry, light, and color found in just about everything. From a young age, she has expressed herself creatively through writing, photography, and art.

As a world traveler, white water, and naturalist guide, Kris is fascinated by the layers of light and color. Her creative expression is focused on transforming her original photographs into digitally-generated paintings, providing unique and vibrant art for people to enjoy.


ARTIST STATEMENT

I received my first camera as a fourth grader in 1978. As I explored light and color through photography, I struggled in dark rooms to make the photo pop the way I envisioned it. Digital cameras were revolutionary for me, with their filters and ability to see the results immediately and learn.

Still, though, the photos didn't pop like my imagination visualized. There was so much more color in the real world that the camera didn't capture. I tried painting my photographs, but they didn't quite capture the layers of light and color I envisioned. It wasn't until online photo painting programs arrived that I could see my art evolve.

I'm an avid traveler and have been a naturalist and white water river guide since 1989. There is a high level of adrenaline and oxytocin I get from the unknown adventure waiting to happen. Nature is layered in texture, light, color, and depth and digital painting allows me to explore the unknown and discover what can happen in my art. Playing with color, layering texture, and exploring the unknown is where I experience satisfaction, awe, and joy.
