ARTIST BIO
Paola Carrera is a Colombian artist originally from Barranquilla and currently based in Bogotá.
She pursued her artistic training between 2019 and 2024 at the Lega2 Academy under the guidance of master artist Alfredo Araujo Santoyo, completing the Professional Figurative Drawing and Artistic Techniques programs. Since then, she has continued to deepen her studies in technique, art history, and philosophy, strengthening the conceptual and technical foundations of her practice.
Carrera’s initial professional background is in industrial engineering. This discipline provided her with a structured approach to generating “value” through the effective use of available resources. From this perspective—combined with her personal history—the artistic vocation she had carried since childhood began to fully develop. By integrating these fields, her research has come to focus primarily on the concepts of utility, value, and humanity.
Her work is primarily figurative, employing oil, acrylic, and charcoal as principal mediums. Through her practice, she seeks to make human beings—especially women—visible in the fullness of their worth, fostering dialogue about their role in society and exploring the essence of what makes us human.
ARTIST STATEMENT
My initial professional training and experience, as I said, is in industrial engineering. This field encourage me to build the skills to produce "value" with available resources; it is from this perspective, that I have focused my research primarily on the concepts of utility and value from an social and individual aproach. I explore how we impact in each others and talk about people are made to be taking care and things are made to be used and tagged, not the opposite.
